Membership

Benefits

  • Regular emails notifying members of talks / seminars at universities and other institutions, professional development opportunities and new weblinks related to Biology (and the opportunity to share these).
  • Invitation to Biology Network Meetings (typically twice a term) that at hosted by different schools throughout each year (various locations). These meetings often include a guest speaker / scientist from a broad range of areas.
  • An opportunity to discuss VCE Biology examinations / SACs / marking schemes with other Biology teachers.
  • Ability to liaise with VCAA about the issues around VCE assessment.
  • Share information about curriculum changes relevant to Biology teachers.
  • Share teaching and learning resources developed by teachers across the Biology Network.

Cost

Schools and Institutions are asked to pay $70.00 per annum, renewed at the beginning of each year (by 28 February), to be a member of the Network. Individuals, including pre-service teachers can become members for $40.00 per annum. New memberships can be taken up later in any year but there is no pro-rata option available.

Membership opens up access, via a password, to the ‘Members only’ pages of this website.

The funds raised by the Network are used to provide gifts for speakers, cover meeting consumable costs, pay for promotional costs (eg. flyers, banners, website development/improvements), provide administrative support as needed, and cover AGM preparation and expenses.

Membership Application/Payment

The Membership application process is the same for both new and renewing members (ie. continuing members are required to submit the online form below in February/March each year, together with payment, so we can maintain current information).

Individuals/Pre-service Teachers

  1. Click on the Application for Individuals/Pre-service Teachers link to start the application/payment process
  2. Complete the online application and click green SIGN UP button
  3. On the payment page securely pay online with your credit card
  4. Receipt will be emailed to you (may be tax deductible)

Schools/Institutions – teacher pays

  1. Click on the Application for Schools/Institutions link to start the application/payment process
  2. Complete the online application and click green SIGN UP button
  3. On the payment page securely pay online with your credit card
  4. Receipt will be emailed to you (may use this to claim reimbursement from your school)

Schools/Institutions – school pays

  1. Click on the Application for Schools/Institutions link to start the application/payment process
  2. Complete the online application and click green SIGN UP button
  3. On the payment page click on the green bar to create an invoice/unique payment link which will be emailed to you
  4. Forward this email (with approval) to your accounts department for payment
  5. Accounts to click on link and securely pay online using school credit card
  6. Receipt will be emailed to the teacher (teacher to forward receipt to accounts for their records)

Note: No refunds are available on payments for memberships.

After payment is made, member access to the website will be provided automatically to the teacher who initiated the membership. If a school account, member access details can be provided to other teachers within the school.

After completing and submitting the online membership application form all teachers listed on the form will also be added to the Biology Network email distribution list.

If not interested in financial membership at this time then anyone interested in being part of the wider Biology Network community is welcome to have their email address added to the Biology Teachers Network email distribution list to receive information about the activities of the Network.
